Namely Urea is produced by mammals from the breakdown of proteins, it is excreted in the urine. It is naturally present in the epidermis and is part of the NMF. In cosmetics, urea is produced synthetically and does not come from an animal source.

It helps to slow down the loss of moisture in a cosmetic product. In skin care, it increases the water content of the epidermis and acts as a humectant.

Its manufacturing process makes that urea is banned in organic.
