Isopropyl alcohol is one of the most widely used alcohols in cosmetics. Discovered in the 1920s, it is synthesized from a reaction between propylene and sulfuric acid, followed by hydrolysis. It is used as an antiseptic in cosmetic products: it is found for example in aftershave lotions, hand lotions.
