Polysorbate 60 is an ethoxylated compound made from ethylene oxide, sorbitol and stearic acid (this fatty acid is a derivative from vegetable oils such as rapeseed or palm oil). This ingredient is soluble in water and alcohol and is used in cosmetics as a non-ionic emulsifier. Considering its polluting nature, Polysorbate 60 is not allowed in biological cosmetics.
