Namely Polysorbate 60 is an ethoxylated compound made from ethylene oxide, sorbitol and stearic acid (this fatty acid is a derivative from vegetable oils such as rapeseed or palm oil). This ingredient is soluble in water and alcohol and is used in cosmetics as a non-ionic emulsifier. Considering its polluting nature, Polysorbate 60 is not allowed in biological cosmetics.
Polysorbate 60 is a synthetic additive used in the food industry under the code name E435 as an emulsifier and stabiliser.

  • Emulsifying : Promotes the formation of intimate mixtures between immiscible liquids by modifying the interfacial tension (water and oil)
  • Surfactant : Reduces the surface tension of cosmetics and contributes to the even distribution of the product when it is used
