Namely Tocopherol represents different components of Vitamin E. It is used in cosmetics for its antioxidant properties. This fat-soluble ingredient (which dissolves in oil) is found naturally in vegetable oils such as palm oil, sunflower oil or wheat germ ... In 2014, Tocopherol made the another ERC study and 13 other vitamin E derivatives. The agency concluded that it is safe. Note that Tocopherol can be of synthetic origin (made entirely in the laboratory).
Its functions (INCI)
  • Antioxidant : Inhibits reactions favored by oxygen, thus avoiding oxidation and rancidity
  • Masking : Reduces or inhibits the odor or basic taste of the product
  • Skin conditioning - miscellaneous : Improving the appearance of dry and/or damaged skin by reducing flaking and restoring its suppleness.
  • Skin conditioning - occlusive : Retarding the evaporation of water from the skin surface. Occlusives are generally lipids which tend to remain on the skin surface and thus increase the water content of skin.
