Namely Tocopherol represents different components of Vitamin E. It is used in cosmetics for its antioxidant properties. In 2014, Tocopherol made the another ERC study and 13 other vitamin E derivatives. The agency concluded that it is safe. Note that Tocopherol can be of synthetic origin (made entirely in the laboratory).
Its functions (INCI)
  • Antioxidant : Inhibits reactions favored by oxygen, thus avoiding oxidation and rancidity
  • Masking : Reduces or inhibits the odor or basic taste of the product
  • Skin conditioning - miscellaneous : Improving the appearance of dry and/or damaged skin by reducing flaking and restoring its suppleness.
  • Skin conditioning - occlusive : Retarding the evaporation of water from the skin surface. Occlusives are generally lipids which tend to remain on the skin surface and thus increase the water content of skin.
