Paraffin is a soft white solid wax made from petroleum. It is used in many fields such as foodstuffs and in the manufacture of candles. It is used in cosmetics in make-up products such as mascara or lipstick, but also in many body care products. It is prohibited in organic farming and is not very biodegradable.
