Namely Produced by the dehydration of methanol, dimethyl ether is a colorless gas mainly used as a propellant in cosmetics, and in particular in hairsprays and hair spray.

Attention, this gas should not come into contact with the eyes, and not be breathed: which seems difficult given its use in cosmetics spray.

Note that it is used with propane to effectively remove warts.
Its functions (INCI)
  • Propellant : Generates pressure in an aerosol pack, expelling contents when the valve is opened. Some liquefied propellants can act as solvents
  • Solvent : Dissolves other substances
  • Viscosity controlling : Increases or decreases the viscosity of cosmetics
