Namely Sodium alginate is extracted from brown marine algae. It is in the form of a white and odorless powder, used in cosmetics for its gelling properties (which gives consistency to products). It comes in particular in the composition of Gaviscon, which in contact with citric acid forms a gel that limits heartburn.
