Restriction in Europe:
The use of hydroxyapatite in nanoparticle form is regulated as follows:
- authorised only in toothpastes (at a maximum of 10%) and in mouthwashes (at a maximum of 0.465%),
- authorised only in the form of rod-shaped particles of which at least 95.8% (by number of particles) have an aspect ratio of less than 3 and the remaining 4.2% have an aspect ratio of no more than 4.9, uncoated or surface-modified,
- prohibited in applications that could lead to exposure of the end user's lungs through inhalation.
These provisions apply in Europe:
- from 1 February 2025 for products placed on the market,
- from 1 November 2025 for products made available on the market.

- Oral care/hygiene agent : Provides cosmetic effects to the oral cavity (cleaning, deodorization and protection)
