Stearyl alcohol or Octadenol is a fatty alcohol. It is used in cosmetics as an emulsifier (which helps water and oil to mix). It forms cetyl alcohol (CETYL ALCOHOL) with cetearyl alcohol (CETEARYL ALCOHOL). Stearyl alcohol is allowed in organic.
