Limonene is one of the 24 regulated allergens in Europe. It takes its name from the lemon in which it is present in large quantities. In cosmetics, it is used for its fragrance.
It exists in two different forms:
- d-limonene is present in many plants, fruits and vegetables. It is also found in the skin of citrus fruits, pickles, celery or even in several essential oils.
- the other isometric form, l-limonene, is present mainly in pine oils, turpentine and mint oils.
