Namely
Sorbitol is a polyol that comes in the form of a white, sweet crystalline powder. It is used primarily as a humectant in dental hygiene products, to help the paste retain its fluid appearance after opening, but also for its non-cariogenic sweetening power (does not generate cavities like sugar). It is quite frequently found for the same reasons in moisturizing creams. In food, it is found as an additive under the name E420 or as a sweetener for diabetics.
Industrially, Sorbitol is obtained, for example, by the hydrogenation of corn or glucose syrup. It is found naturally present in many fruits such as plums, apples and cherries.
