Triethyl citrate is produced by a process of esterification of citric acid with ethanol. It is naturally present in small amounts in wine and is easily metabolized by the human body.
In cosmetics, this ingredient is frequently used in deodorants formulated as alternatives to aluminum salts. Because of its ability to inhibit enzymatic decomposition of sweat components, it is an excellent active ingredient in the fight against body odor. Triethyl citrate also has antibacterial properties.
