Classification:Synthetic polymer
Namely
Sodium polyacrylate is the sodium salt of polyacrylic acid, described as a superabsorbent. Thanks to this “super capacity” to absorb water up to 1000 times its weight, it acts as a thickening agent in cosmetic products (creating gels).
Its functions (INCI)
Absorbent : Absorbs water (or oil) in dissolved or fine form
Binding agent : Allows the cohesion of different cosmetic ingredients
Emollient : Softens and smoothes the skin
Emulsion stabilising : Promotes the emulsification process and improves the stability and shelf life of the emulsion
Film forming : Produces a continuous film on skin, hair or nails
Hair fixing : Allows hair style control
Skin conditioning : Maintains skin in good condition
Viscosity controlling : Increases or decreases the viscosity of cosmetics
