Behenyl alcohol or Docosanol is a fatty alcohol. It is used in cosmetics as an emulsifier to keep oily parts well mixed with other liquids. It is also used as a thickener, to increase the foaming capacity of a product or to improve the stability of a foam. It makes the skin soft and its touch remains non-greasy after application. It is authorized in organic.
In drugs, docosanol is used as an antiviral against herpes.
