Namely Dehydroacetic acid is used in cosmetics as a preservative for its fungicidal and bactericidal actions. It is used under the name E265 in food. As it is biodegradable, this chemical does not pose a problem for the environment, and the health risks remain quite low. Note, however, that the compound is prohibited in aerosol type sprays. Dehydroacetic acid is authorized in Bio.
