Namely Zinc citrate is mainly used in oral hygiene products as an antimicrobial agent. It works particularly well with Triclosan (although this ingredient is particularly controversial and suspected to be an endocrine disruptor). It is also an active against scale that can support the action of fluoride.

The maximum concentration of Zinc Citrate allowed in cosmetics is 1%.

  • Antimicrobial : Helps slowing the growth of micro-organisms on the skin and counteracts the development of microbes
  • Antiplaque : Helps prevent plaque formation
  • Oral care/hygiene agent : Provides cosmetic effects to the oral cavity (cleaning, deodorization and protection)
This ingredient is present in 0.22% of cosmetics.
