Namely Menthol is a member of the alcohol family and is obtained from mint or peppermint oils. It has a peppermint scent. It is known for its invigorating and refreshing effects on the skin. However, it is highly sensitizing and can cause irritation and even allergic reactions. It is one of the allergens regulated by Europe. It is authorized for organic products.

The presence of the substance must be indicated in the list of ingredients referred to in Article 19, paragraph 1, point g), when its concentration is higher:
- at 0.001% in leave-on products,
- 0.01% in rinse-off products.
